FJØRT is a three-piece band that was formed in Aachen, near the Dutch border, in 2012. Shortly after the release of their first LP, the band began gaining traction on the local scene, followed by three more critically acclaimed album releases. Their music combines rough hardcore sounds with an indie attitude.
In recent years the band played sold out headline shows as well as all relevant major festivals in G/S/A and supported several international artists, e.g. Funeral for a Friend and Gojira.
Furthermore they successfully entered international territories over the last years. For example:
• Artmania Festival, Romania (2019)
• The Fest Gainesville, US (2023)
• Headline shows in the US (2023)
After their last album ‘nichts’ reached number 8 in the German album charts, their new album ‘belle époque’ was finally released on 20 February this year and even reached number two. They continue to experiment and explore new avenues of musical expression that are sometimes difficult to predict, oscillating between aggressive or hardcore approaches and dreamy directions characteristic of post-rock influences from bands such as Mogwai, Sigur Rós and Envy. Following the album release, the band is on an almost sold-out tour of Germany and Austria this March.
‘belle époque’ press quotes:
“Fjort celebrate the contrasts between blistering hardcore, pop sensibility, and post-rock textures like no other German band, even after almost 15 years together.”
– VISIONS (Album of the Month)
“Angry, dark, and always a little suicidal: FJØRT spew venom and bile on their new album. One of the few German-language bands where the quality of the lyrics and music are perfectly balanced.”
– Dennis Plauk / VISIONS
“German-language hardcore rarely sounds this intense and nuanced.”
– Musikexpress
“The band achieves what art can and should achieve, but doesn’t always manage. And in doing so, they elevate a genre like post-hardcore from the niche into the spotlight of pop-cultural discourse.”
– Kultur.West
“With ‘belle époque,’ Fjørt not only create their own magnum opus, but also preserve a piece of history. Few albums, especially in the German-speaking world, can claim to capture the sentiment of their era so clearly, empathetically, and yet so raw and uncompromisingly.”
– plattentests.de (Album of the Week)
“Dramatic arcs of tension in terms of ‘heaviness,’ tempo, emotions, suspense, and release.”
– The Gap (Austria)
“A post-hardcore statement in close collaboration with metal and guitar rock. ‘belle époque’ is a signpost, a memorial, and an appeal. A manifesto for resistance.”
– FRIZZ
“You have to want an album like ‘belle époque,’ like anything that could potentially cause pain. The result isn’t pretty, but it’s still a powerful cinematic experience.”
– laut.de
“You can tell they convey emotions—especially their pissed-off attitude—like almost no other band.”
– RCN Magazine
“‘belle époque’ isn’t a commissioned piece, not a forced output, but rather creatively ambitious, musically visionary, and idea-driven.”
– Krachfink
